period from date of hire. Must pass pre-employment physical

Facilities Development and Management (FDM) at Arizona State
University seeks a General Maintenance Mechanic to be a part of a
facilities maintenance team at the Polytechnic campus, with primary
duties within newly constructed research buildings. This role
operates within zoned maintenance teams, supports complex lab and
research operations, and ensures high-performance building systems
function optimally for ASU’s Knowledge Enterprise and the broader
campus community. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong
technical skills, collaborative experience in research-intensive
environments, and a proactive approach to problem-solving solving
in research-intensive environments that rely on cutting-edge

Electrical maintenance duties for 120 and 277 volts: Maintain and
repair lighting, ballast, lighting switches, and receptacles,
sockets, and diffusers Perform electrical troubleshooting utilizing
multi-meters/volt detectors and circuit tracers. Plumbing
maintenance duties: Provide plumbing repair and maintenance of
public restrooms, labs, kitchens, etc. Maintain and re-build water
closet flushometers, urinal flushometers, and multiple types and
brands of faucets and under sink supplies. Clear all types of drain
clogs and stoppages. Maintain public restroom toilet and urinal
partitions and replacement of related hardware of partitions.
Carpentry maintenance duties: Maintain and adjust auto door
closers. Provide interior and exterior door preventative
maintenance and replacement of door hardware such as flush bolts,
push/pull handles, kick plates, door strikes, hinges, closers,
weather stripping, smoke seals, door sweeps. Repair and replace
several diverse types of flooring. Maintain and replace damaged
suspended ceiling systems and ceiling tiles. Provide small drywall
repairs, including paint touch-up of drywall repairs. Other duties:
Be first response to elevator trouble calls and performing basic
troubleshooting of elevator door problems. Operate forklift,
scissor truck/manlift, hydraulic/electric/manual scaffolds. Use
dollies for loading and unloading materials. \Assist other trades
as needed. Utilize various specific hand tools, power tools, and
equipment. Maintain daily logs/records with the use of
computers/tablets. Interact effectively with customers and students
of diverse backgrounds. Work within a team environment and
contribute to team goals. Move and relocate research equipment as
needed. Understand operations of specialized research building
systems Clearly communicate to perform essential functions of the
job. This position requires working a rotating on-call/stand-by
schedule and may be called in for emergency response including
nights, weekends, and holidays. Other duties as assigned. Ability

40 feet May be exposed to hazardous and dangerous materials, tools,
and equipment which will require safety precautions and/or specific
process to be followed, and may include the use of Personal
Protection Equipment (PPE) (e.g. safety glasses, hearing
protection, negative pressure and positive pressure respirator).
Use of PPE may require medical clearance prior to use. Utilize
power tools (e.g. drills, generators, saws, lifts, vacuum
equipment). Climb ladders, ladder wells, and stairs. Use lifting,
moving, and rigging equipment to safely move, transfer, or relocate
heavy equipment. Work in adverse working conditions such as
confined spaces (e.g. tunnels, man holes, vaults), dirty areas, low
lighting, and extreme temperatures. Stoop, bend, and reach. Walk
throughout campus/various research buildings. Ability to push
and/or pull weight loaded maintenance cart. May be exposed to
hazardous and dangerous materials, tools, and equipment which will
require safety precautions and/or specific process to be followed,
and may include the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
(e.g. safety glasses, hearing protection, negative pressure and
positive pressure respirator). May also perform some activities in
an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended
periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse.
May drive University vehicles. Minimum Qualifications: High School
Diploma and two-years (2) experience appropriate to the area of
assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience
and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and
